Jane Elizabeth Rosewarne
This starts with my Grandmother, Jane Elizabeth Rosewarne, who came out from Cornwall.
From family conversations we know her mother was widowed and travelled to New Zealand with 5 children and a maid. It was in Christchurch where the children were educated.
There was Wil, who later moved to the USA.
Fred, who became the managing director of H Weeks Ltd. He never married.
Jack (John), who fought in the Spanish American War, married a well known singer from Hawkes Bay.
Jane, who married William Isaac Stemson.
And Len, a nurse who lived in Auckland.
Richard Charles, passed away at the age of 11 before the family moved to New Zealand.
Richard John and Jane Rosewarne
These are the parents of Jane Elizabeth.
They were married in Phillack on 20th December 1865. Both were aged 29. They set up house in Fore Street, Copperhouse, which is part of the town of Hayle. It was here that all the children were born. The census of 1871 shows his occupation to be a grocer. Two servant girls were living with them.
After Richard John died at the age of 40, Jane moved the family to St Austell, where they appear in the 1881 Census.
